Stop Paying for Five AI Subscriptions. Here's the One-Tab Setup That Replaces Them

Somewhere in your browser there's a tab for ChatGPT, a tab for Claude, a tab for Gemini, and a couple of specialist tools you signed up for in a hurry. Each one has its own subscription, its own history, and no idea what the others know. Here's the one-tab setup that replaces the pile—and why it usually costs less.

How We Ended Up With Five Subscriptions

Nobody planned this. One model was better at code, another at writing, a third had the longest context, and the easiest way to use each was to pay for its consumer app. Vendors price those apps in the same neighbourhood: Anthropic's Claude Pro plan, for example, is listed at $20 per month billed monthly, or $17 on an annual plan, with a Max tier "from $100" above it. Multiply that by every vendor you keep a tab open for and the line item on your card is real—before you've counted the time lost copying context between windows.

The deeper cost is fragmentation. Your prompts, your documents, your saved instructions and your conversation history are split across apps that can't see each other. Every switch starts from zero.

What Actually Changed: One Endpoint, Every Model

The piece most people haven't noticed is that model access has been unbundled from the consumer apps. Routers like OpenRouter describe themselves as giving "access to hundreds of AI models through a single API endpoint", OpenAI-compatible, with automatic fallbacks. That means a single platform can put GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and the rest behind one chat box, one history and one bill—without you holding a separate account with each vendor.

And when you pay per use instead of per seat, the economics change. Published API prices show how wide the spread is between tiers: on Anthropic's price list, Claude Haiku 5.5 is $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens, while Claude Sonnet 5.5 is $2 and $10; on OpenAI's, gpt-6-luna is listed at $0.10 input and $0.50 output per million tokens next to flagships at $10 and $50. A quick question routed to a small model costs a fraction of a cent. A flat subscription charges you the same whether you ask one question or a thousand.

    The One-Tab Setup

Here's how to collapse the pile into MultiverseAI. It takes an afternoon, most of which is deciding what to keep.

Step 1: Move your conversations and instructions into one place

Start a workspace and bring over the instructions you've been pasting into each app—brand voice, coding conventions, the "always answer in bullet points" rules. In MultiverseAI these live in Contexts, which attach to any chat or agent, so the instruction is written once and applied everywhere. The 100 free credits on a new account are enough to run through this step without paying anything.

Step 2: Pick models per task, not per app

The model picker in the chat lists the frontier models side by side. Switch mid-conversation when a different model fits the next message better; the history comes with you. For repeatable jobs, set the model on the agent or workflow node so you stop thinking about it. A sensible default: a small model for summaries, classification and first drafts; a flagship for hard reasoning and final polish.

Step 3: Turn your saved prompts into agents

Every prompt you've been re-typing is an agent waiting to happen. Give it a name, the instructions, and only the tools it needs from the 88 in the toolkit—web search, Google Sheets, Slack, GitHub, whatever that job touches. Agents keep memory between runs and can be shared with your team, so the "Weekly report drafter" is built once instead of re-explained in five apps.

Step 4: Replace the specialist tools with workflows

The niche subscriptions—"AI for social posts", "AI for meeting notes"—are usually a prompt plus an integration. Rebuild them on the workflow canvas: a trigger (schedule, webhook, inbound chat message), an AI step, a Condition, and a node that posts the result to Slack, WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord or wherever you need it. 50 integrations connect through your own accounts, so nothing changes on the receiving end.

Step 5: Keep the API, drop the tabs

If you also build software, the same workspace is reachable over a REST API and an MCP server, and the native macOS app gives you the chat without a browser at all. One login, one set of credentials, one place to look when something goes wrong.

    What It Costs Instead

MultiverseAI bills per call in credits: 1 credit = $0.01, with AI usage charged at provider cost plus 50%, and fractions carrying over until they add up to a whole credit. The Credits page shows every charge by feature and model, so the question "what did that prompt cost?" has an exact answer. Bring your own provider keys and those calls cost you nothing in credits. For most people who were paying for several consumer apps, the usage-based bill is smaller—and it's finally visible.

Cancel the Tabs, Not the Capability

The point isn't to use less AI. It's to stop paying a flat fee to five vendors for the privilege of copying text between them. Put every model behind one door, keep your context in one place, pay for what you run, and open one tab in the morning. Start with the free credits, move one workflow this week, and cancel the first subscription when you notice you haven't opened it in a month.
